Walking is better than nothing!

The great thing about walking for exercise is that you can do it anywhere.  You have no excuse for not getting up and moving around for at least 30 minutes a day.  Maybe it’s raining out?  Take an umbrella!  Honestly, just get out for a short walk around the neighborhood a couple of times and you will thank yourself for it later.  If it’s terrible out, just walking around your house or apartment is better than nothing. Get creative you can turn that 30 minutes into cleaning the house or any other chore while still getting your steps in.

Walking for exercise is extremely low impact, and so anyone of any age. It can do it safely and frequently without worrying about hurting themselves.  Running and other more strenuous forms of exercise can cause all kinds of joint pain. It also soreness and isn’t recommended unless you are in otherwise good shape. There are studies comparing different forms of exercise that show that walking is as beneficial. If running or other higher intensity exercises, you just need to do it longer.  If you are walking for exercise, go for at least 30 minutes or even an hour.  The more the better, if you have a tracking device like an apple watch or fit bit you can track your exact steps.

There are a lot of exercise programs, it is something nearly anyone that can walk can do, there is a huge market for walking programs.  I would recommend any program that motivates you to walk frequently. You don’t necessarily even need one, there are hiking and walking clubs all over you can join.  Not only can walking for exercise be a way to maintain good health, but it can be a good way to meet new people and form new networks and relationships.  With so many benefits and nearly no cons, you cannot go wrong with walking.  Its only drawback is that it takes time to do, but it is time well spent especially since you are taking care of your health.
